Before I got into the fitness bandwagon, I was a 280lbs., 5’11” man who lead a very sedentary lifestyle. My job required me to be sitting infront of my computer for almost 12 hours every day and by the time I got home, I was too mentally drained to be doing anything else but pop a frozen dinner into the microwave or call for a pizza delivery.

Needless to say, I never had the energy to workout and I never bothered to make time for it. What’s worse was that the thought of eating healthy never even crossed my mind. I was all about fast food, frozen dinners, and unhealthy snacks.

A 360 Degree Turn

So what made me decide to change my lifestyle? Well, one day at work I suddenly had a hard time breathing. It was like there was a 100-pound dumbbell on my chest! At first I dismissed it as gas but after an hour, the heaviness started feeling like something was piercing my lungs. As you may have already guessed, it was at this point that my colleagues decided to call 911. I won’t deny, lying on a gurney and being poked and prodded by EMTS was the scariest thing I’ve ever experienced. We all thought I was having a heart attack.

To cut the long story short, it wasn’t a heart attack. My doctor said that what I experienced was severe heartburn brought about by gastroenteritis that I didn’t know I had. He explained that my gastroenteritis was caused by my unhealthy lifestyle (read: oily fast food, too much coffee, and zero exercise) and while I should be thankful that I didn’t have a heart attack, I should also consider myself very lucky because I was a perfect candidate for a CVA. He added that if I continued living the way I did, I would most likely end up back in the ER but next time, I might not be as lucky with only a heartburn.

It was then I decided that I would commit myself to turning my life around. Before I was discharged from the hospital, I asked for a consultation with a nutritionist and discussed options on how I could lose the excess weight without compromising my health (did you know that losing too much weight in a short amount of time is very bad for your health? Because it is!). Of course, the first thing that she advised was to cut off fast food and other unhealthy items from my diet. Next, I was ordered to incorporate exercise into my day, even if it’s only 30-minutes of cardio.

I started with just walking for 30 minutes around the park and also invested in an elliptical machine. Slowly but surely, I was able to build my endurance and stamina, lose a bit of weight, and was given the go ahead by my doctor to start running.

Today…

It’s been 5 years since that awful day at the ER but somehow I am thankful that it happened. I revamped my entire life because of that incident. I didn’t just stop at eating healthy and working out, I also switched careers because I knew that my 12-hour desk job was very conducive to an unhealthy lifestyle. I decided to pursue my interest and passion for graphic design and I now work from home. This career change has given me the opportunity to not only focus on my health but also on my personal life.

So Why BestElliptical.Reviews?

Since I work from home and pretty much have absolute control of my time, my wife encouraged me to get out there and help others who are currently struggling with weight issues. I decided to focus on sharing what I know about elliptical machines because I realized that it is one of the most understated workout machines out there.

Ellipticals really played a huge role in my fitness journey. It helped me get my system ready for more intense workouts when I first starting out. It also served as my primary cardio exercise because to be honest, I’m really not the type of guy who loves hitting the pavement. Lastly, to this day I still hop on my elliptical when I don’t really feel like doing any other type of exercise but have to make sure I at least break a sweat.

I have gone through a lot of ellipticals over the past 5 years – some of them I purchased for my home gym and others, I’ve extensively used in the gym I’m a member of. So yes, I do think I am qualified to provide honest to goodness reviews on certain elliptical machine brands and models.

Aside from elliptical machine reviews, I also write guides and share tips and tricks I’ve picked up along my fitness journey. And it’s not over yet so you can expect that I will be updating my site with whatever new tips I learn in the future.
